C5 Mongoose Package
from Pro Auto Tech

The Mongoose Package from Pro
Auto Tech increases the HP of the C5 to approximately 400 SAE (flywheel).
That should put the rear wheel HP at about 340 for the 6-speed! AND
- it comes with these cool decals! It is made up of the following
components unless otherwise noted (most of this information comes from
Ron & Tiffany at Pro Auto Tech):
-
Nology
HotWires capacitive ignition (328.35): The Nology system provides a
very short intense burn in the combustion process. This burn closely matches
the Ignition Timing Curve on the LS1! When used in combination with
the Beru Silverstone plugs (see below) it results in an additional
11
Horsepower to the rear wheels on the C5 Mongoose 400!
I noticed a big improvement in idle quality and better throttle response.
Feels more neck snapping.
-
Beru Silverstone
plugs ($71.60): These are the best Spark Plugs that money can
buy! They are made of 100 percent silver! Silver is the best Thermal Conductor
known! These plugs provide maximum spark energy! For instance, stock
plugs have a resistance of 5500 Ohms. The Beru spark plugs are pure silver
with a resistance of only .3 Ohms! Yes, it is true that you can kiss the
AM radio good-bye because of electrical interference. There are no problems
with FM. Some owners report interference with their Valentine-One's laser
detection circuitry.
-
Ignition timing
tricker ($22.95): keeps the computer in the Maximum Performance Timing
Curve! The computer has several timing tables to choose from. It likes
to stay at the most aggressive timing curve which at full throttle on a
97-98 Corvette is 28-29 degrees of timing. A 99 Corvette has 30 degrees
of timing if the air coming in is below 60 degrees. The
Timing Tricker
basically tells the computer that the air coming in is 57 degrees. The
difference is 5.5 HP between timing
at 24 degrees versus 28 degrees. Timing Tricker holds maximum timing no
matter what the temp of the engine is. Use unleaded fuel.
Cooling:
-
178 degree thermostat ($69.95): The 178 F Degree thermostat
lowers the LS1 Engine Temperature. The LS1 runs best at about 178-180 degrees.
Lower Temps reduce Friction and increase the life of your investment!!
Reduced friction and increases Performance!
-
Throttle body coolant bypass: By bypassing the
hot coolant through the throttle body you lower the incoming air temperature
into the LS1! Cooler Air, More Power!! Claims
of 1-2 HP gain.
Intake:
-
Mongoose LS-6 "Air Force" air intake box ($269.95):
10-15 HP increase is obtained
with the Donaldson filter. It is one of the highest flowing filters
available for the C5 today. It allows the LS1 to make more power than with
no filter at all.
-
Max modified
mass air flow sensor: The Max Flow Mass Air Sensor helps improve
fuel curve control across the entire engine RPM range. Fuel and ignition
timing tables are based mainly on mass air flow rate. The modified Mass
Air Flow Sensor allows more air to enter the engine without the computer
adding the fuel to go along with it. This leans the air-fuel mixture and
adds a little timing. This will enhance the performance and fuel economy
of the LS1. The screen has been removed and the body ported/polished
and recalibrated to lean out the fuel mixture (C5's run too rich).
A
5 H.P. gain is typical
(per
C5 Concepts).
-
Cold air intake vents. (From C5 Concepts) The
cold air intakes allow cold air to circulate over the intake filter reducing
intake temperatures and increasing horsepower. There is possibly
some "ram" effect at high speeds with these installed.
Exhaust:
-
B&B Tri-Flo Performance Exhaust System ($1050.00):
Provides
(per B&B) gains of up to
14 Horsepower! The Tri-Flo "cat-back" system is all
T-304 stainless steel and comes fully polished. The sound is pure enjoyment
- very "Euro". Without being overbearing it emits a warm, throaty
tone with no interior resonance. Cosmetics are greatly improved as the
fully polished system exits the center valance opening with quad
4.5" wide and 3" tall, oval rolled-edge tips
