Donaldson BlackWing Air Filter Installation Instructions:

1.  Remove the entire stock air box and snorkel assembly as follows: Loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body (closest to the engine), unplug the intake air temperature sensor and the mass air flow  sensor connectors.  Give the air box a little pull from the frame (do this from in front of the car by reaching through between the bumper and the hood, you may need to pry gently with a screw driver to get the box to unplug from the rubber bushings).  It is firmly mounted!  Keep these bushings for later - you will need them for the new filter.  Remove the rubber "breather" line from the driver's side of the factory air box lid.  Leave the plastic elbow attached to the line; this will be used later; don't lose the grommet..

2.  Transfer the rubber bushings and breather grommet to the LS6.

3.  Remove the factory air box from the mass air flow sensor, you will need a flat screw driver to un-hook the pinch clamp.  The factory pinch clamp will be discarded.

4.  Attach the LS-6 to the mass air flow sensor by slipping the hose assembly over the MAF sensor.  Snug, but do not tighten yet.  Use some WD-40 on the rubber parts so they fit easily and for later alignment.  It is important here to ensure that the filter sits ALL THE WAY DOWN on the MAF end. If this is not the case, the grommets will NOT line up.

5.  Install the whole assembly, mounting the LS-6 to the frame first. Then tighten the throttle body and mass air flow clamps.  Plug in the intake air temperature sensor and the mass air flow sensor   connectors.  Run the factory breather tube with the plastic elbow along the driver's side to the front of the vehicle.  Using a lubricant, insert the tube into the grommet on the driver's side air tube.  Connect the air duct to the throttle body.  Fully tighten all clamps at this time being careful to ensure proper alignment of the entire assembly.

For information - take a look at the top two photos below.  The top photo shows the stock LS-1 airbox.  Notice the air inlet holes.  These four holes are the only way for airflow to enter the engine - no matter how big the throttle body is.  Now take a look at the middle photo.  It is pretty easy to see that the LS-6 AirForce allows for a significantly higher airflow!  Just look at all the surface area.
