The Columbia River Gorge is a spectacular river canyon cutting the only sea-level route through the Cascade Mountain Range.

It's 80 miles long and up to 4,000 feet deep with the north canyon walls in Washington State and the south canyon walls in Oregon State.

The building visible on the point (Crown Point)is the Vista House.   Completed in 1916,Vista House served as a rest stop for motorists, a monument to pioneers, and the architectural exclamation point to the Historic Columbia River Highway. 

A multiyear, $4 million overhaul has recently restored Vista House to mint condition.
