Further Adventures with Emily:  Train Trip To Seattle - August 2-3, 2008
We traveled to Seattle for Gretchen & Jeremy's wedding.  The train
seemed like a fun and economical way to make the trip.  Below are
260 images from that adventure.

We begin in Portland at the historic Union Station, dedicated February 14, 1896.  At that time it was easily the finest rail station in the West, and was constructed in an elegant blend of brick, stucco and sandstone. The total project cost $300,000. Central to the station design was the 150-foot clock tower, which was later modified to include the neon "Go By Train" signs that are a familiar Portland icon today.

Leaving Portland we are treated to views of the Willamette and Columbia rivers, the St. John's bridge and various small towns.

As we approach the Seattle area we have great views of Puget Sound and the Tacoma Narrows bridge

Our hotel in Seattle was on Broadway, one of the hot-spots.   This section shows images from  the Seattle train station and around our hotel.  It was Seafair week  and we were treated to the Blue Angels along with some great weather.

We begin our return trip at the Seattle Train Station which has seen better days.  This is also where I DROPPED my new Nikon D300 on the very hard floor (@#$#!??*!!!!!!)  The camera survived but my 12-24mm wide angle zoom lens was a casualty.  It is now on it's way to Nikon to see if it can be repaired.  NUTS!

Along the way we saw the Blue Angels again as they landed at Boeing Field.  The train was delayed for about three hours in Puyallup after a local whacko decided to commit  "suicide by Amtrak".  No fun.

The rest of the trip was uneventful and the views were spectacular (better  than on the outbound trip because the windows of the car we were in were actually clean).
